When Starcraft 2 was released on July 27 of last year, I was one of the many excited gamers who lined up at stores to get a copy of the game. Rushing back to my house and excitedly tearing open the box, I immediately installed the game and started playing this most-awaited sequel of the original Starcraft.

Upon playing, I was immediately hooked to the game. I spent the first few days just being locked up in my room playing the single player campaigns of Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty, going out only to take care of my basic needs – food, water, and bathroom breaks. However, as the campaigns started getting harder, I began to find out I need the usual cheat codes which I’ve been used to in the original Starcraft. So thinking that the old cheat codes where never changed, I tried them out. I tried typing “show me the money,” the cheat code for minerals and gas in the old Starcraft. Nothing happened. I tried another one, “operation cwal.” Still nothing. So I tried every cheat code in the first game I could think of but found none of them working. I then exasperatedly cried out, “Don’t tell me I need to find a new list of Starcraft 2 cheats!”

Which was, it turned out, exactly what I needed. So I went online, Googled “Starcraft 2 Cheats,” and got – nothing. Searches were coming up but results were showing cheat codes for the old Starcraft, not cheat codes for the new game. So I went back to my game and went through the campaign without the aid of cheat codes.

However, weeks later, I tried searching for cheat codes again. And this time I was successful! After copying the codes, I immediately tried them out to see if they were working. Yes! Perfectly! So I proceeded to try each one out and started using them in my games to help me speed up my game whenever I’m trying out a new tactic or a new theory I’ve developed. Over the course of this month that I’ve been playing the game, using cheat codes, I’ve found I used some codes more than others. Some of the codes I commonly used were:

I found that most of these codes are the most essential cheat codes one would ever need in Starcraft 2. The rest are either just codes written to enable interesting features or effects in the game. Since the release of the much awaited Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty, sequel to the highly successful and most popular RTS game of all time Starcraft, I’ve been scouring the web for Starcraft 2 cheats, guides, and walkthroughs. Some of the guides are at par and usable, while some were obviously written by people who don’t know what they’re doing or by players who are probably on the bottom of the pile in Blizzard’s rankings. So I was so happy when I encountered this guide written by a very accomplished player, Shokz, who I found out is a ranked Diamond-league player.

Unlike many of the guides out there, Shokz guide is well-written and very informative. He talks about not only the basics but also some of the more advanced tactics in the game. The presentation of his guide is well-ordered and easy to understand, with pictures and videos showing how he accomplishes some of the tactics he teaches. He breaks down each component of the game, dividing each section by race, by units, by campaigns, by achievements, and other categories of the game.

I really liked the fact that Shokz (John Greenhoe) was able to explain in detail yet in easy to understand terms his build orders and excellent tactics in gameplay. In each game situation, he shows what his goals are and how he plans to execute them. By reading his guides, I’ve been able to climb from the bottom ranking and have achieved Diamond status as well! Not only that, with Shokz’ help, I was able to complete many of the game’s achievements.

There are some guides out there that claim to have the most complete Starcraft 2 cheats, or claim to give out the best strategies, or the “secrets of top players,” but fail to live up to the hype. Shokz’ guide on the other hand is just a simple, no-nonsense approach to playing Starcraft 2. There are no Starcraft 2 cheats offered, no hack, and no exploits. You’re just shown how to play the game intelligently and outmaneuver your opponents. Shokz’ guide is all about maximizing your abilities and combining it with the tactics and game experience Shokz have developed over the length of time he has been playing the game (he was also a beta player, playing the game long before others have).

Ever since the advent of gaming, cheat codes have been a part of every game’s life. The cheat codes “up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A” refers to a Konami code which is used in many of the company’s games but was made most famous by the game Contra. This code, when used, gives the player 30 lives which he can use to beat the game.

In the original Starcraft, cheat codes for more minerals and gas (show me the money), faster build times (operation cwal), free upgrades (medieval man), removal of fog of war (war aint what it used to be), all upgrades completed (something for nothing), and many more were programmed into the game and released to the community for use. Likewise, in the recently released sequel, Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty, the game’s programmers have included a number of Starcraft 2 cheats which enable players to play the game easier or allows them to enable other interesting features of the game (such as playing a theme song or enabling the cinematic menu of the game).

Like many gamers, I appreciate the use of these cheat codes which I consider essential in exploring every aspect of the game. For example, by using some of the cheat codes for faster build times or added upgrades, I’m able to watch the effects of my tactical experiments faster, saving me time and effort in studying my game. However, like most gamers, while I appreciate the use of legal cheat codes provided by the game’s programmers, I completely abhor the use of Starcraft 2 cheats or hacks which aim to give certain players advantage in multiplayer games. While cheat codes for the single player mode is acceptable, cheating in multiplayer mode is definitely very, very unacceptable for me. So it came as a shock to me that just weeks after the game was released, there were already rumors of players exploiting some of the game’s weaknesses and employing hacks which enabled them to win or gain an advantage in multiplayer games. And this on Blizzard’s Battle.net servers no less! So I was a bit angry and very disheartened that such things have been occurring especially since I’ve been trying so hard to rank Diamond in this game (I’ve achieved this though, and without cheats no less! I’ll tell you how later on).

In response to the gaming community’s outcry over these reports, Blizzard released an announcement which stated that any player caught using cheats or exploits of the game, or modifying the game client will be perma-banned and will have his Battle.net account suspended. While suspensions and banning have yet to occur, Blizzard has said it will start handing them out soon sometime in the future. As of now, known cheaters are currently under observation and have already had their usernames removed in the rankings.

Now, back to how I achieved Diamond rank without using Starcraft 2 cheats. Oh, and on another note, using these cheat codes disables the achievements in game. To be able to complete the achievements you have to restart the game or play a game where the cheats haven’t been enabled. The only cheat code that doesn’t disable achievements is “OverEngineeredCodPiec.”

Ever since Blizzard announced its upcoming release of Starcraft 2, sequel to perhaps the most popular RTS (Real Time Strategy) game of all time, Starcraft, I’ve eagerly been awaiting its release like millions of fevered fans around the world. Otherwise, you can set your configuration and minimize PSI (which will live in your system tray), and it will do its job. Any settings changes will be applied at the beginning of each new SC2 game (except for the alert hotkey, this can only be updated after SC2 is restarted).
• The current version of PSI cannot do automatic updates, so be sure to check this thread frequently for new versions, especially if you’re having problems. I will try to keep a changelog up to date here.

If you’re anywhere near being a gamer then you most probably have heard of Blizzard Entertainment’s Starcraft real time strategy (RTS) game. It features not only an engaging storyline but also online play that is famed and respected as one of today’s RTS standards – and it’s still being played around the world. If you’ve had your fill of Zerg, Protoss, and Terran action before, you’ll be sure to get the fever all over again with Starcraft 2.

A hefty and quite effective teaser campaign culminated in Starcraft 2’s release date late last July, and since then it’s been a major success. Starcraft 2 picks up where the first game left off, so expect at least just as much storyline and plot twists in this game as in the first one. But probably what markedly separates Starcraft 2 from Starcraft is all the amusing Easter eggs and secrets that make it even more entertaining, as if the storyline and kick ass multiplayer wasn’t enough.

Starcraft 2 secrets range from character cameos from other Blizzard titles and ludicrously famous Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (MMORPGs) to simple storyline improvement factors to secret missions. Let’s start with the small stuff.

Various references to the real world added great value to the Starcraft 2 universe, notably its addition of real life songs to a jukebox aboard the Terran main character Jim Rainor’s ship, the Hyperion. Songs like “Sweet Home Alabama,” “Suspicious Minds,” and “Raw Power” can be found there. The Transformer’s Optimus Prime was also referenced in the first mission as a hovering semi in the map. It’s design and color are noticeably similar to the live action movie’s Prime. Unfortunately it doesn’t get up and fight like you’d want it to. It seems that Apple’s affinity to naming things starting with “i” remains a trend to jab at in Blizzard, as one of the amusing Starcraft 2 secrets you’ll find aboard the Hyperion comes in the form of an “iPistol” commercial on the monitors of the ship.

Probably more amusing than the aforementioned Starcraft 2 secrets are the character cameos. An unmutated Metroid may be in one of the random test tubes in a co-op map or you might have noticed the Hyperion cantina’s holographic erotic dancer’s moves bearing some uncanny resemblance to the MMORPG World of Warcraft’s Night Elf dance animation. Nova of the cancelled Starcraft: Ghost also appears briefly in the game as well as Grunty the Murloc—a Blizzard promotional pet from World of Warcraft yet again. Diablo also gets his cameo in the first mission, fittingly on a lava planet.

And one of the most promising and entertaining secrets in Starcraft 2 is the secret mission you can get during the mission “Media Blitz.” Apparently there’s a science facility that spouts out confidential documents that lead to a secret mission when you destroy it. The mission adds all the more value to the storyline particularly Raynor’s and the rebellion’s fight against Emperor Mengsk’s rule.

Most of these amusing secrets require a keen eye and a decent amount of graphic processing power, so you may want to make sure your graphics card can dish out as much detail as it can during the game. As for finding these secrets and others that are only probably waiting to be found, that’s all up to you.

It’s only been a couple of months since Blizzard Entertainment released Starcraft 2 but the competition has already gotten ever fiercer – as you can probably feel every time you log in to battle.net to play in your league.
